Located
just north of Highway 50 on Placerville Drive in the
city of Placerville. This museum features displays and
artifacts from El Dorado County's history. The museum
also provides many services including genealogy assistance.

- Saturday, 10 AM - 4 PM, Sunday, 12 PM - 4 PM, Tuesday,
the research room (only) is open to the public for research
10 AM - 3 PM, Closed Monday.
The Museum is also closed on New Year's Day,
Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. [Click

Found
on Main Street in historic downtown Placerville, this museum
is located in the original soda works building dating to
1852. Today it holds artifacts and exhibits about Placerville's
history, and displays furnishings from a prominent resident.
Fountain-Tallman Museum is owned and operated by the El
Dorado County Historical Society.

Bug Park - Hattie Museum

Bug Park
On 61.5
acres one mile north of downtown Placerville, Gold Bug Park
features walking trails, picnic areas, the Hattie Museum
and Interpretive Center which exhibits historical artifacts
and displays about mining, the Joshua Hendy Stamp Mill recreates
the large stamp mills used to crush ore, and the Gold Bug
Mine open for self-guided tours. Guided-group tours available
by appointment. Also, we now have a covered picnic area
by the stream, soon to contain interpretive information.

In winter only Mine open weekends only - 12PM - 4PM (November
through Mid-April)
Park, Picnic Areas and Hiking Trails - open daily 8:30AM -

child (7 to 16), children 6 and under - free

The museum features display which chronicle the development
of the Lake Tahoe Basin from earliest occupation by Native
American through its 19th century development to the present
time. Artifacts include Washoe Indian Basketry, logging,
shipping, and railroad objects, and pioneer and farm displays.

The Park
includes the Gold Discovery Museum which offers information,
exhibits, and artifacts relating to the gold discovery and
gold rush, the outdoor mining exhibit containing examples
of some of the many kinds of equipment used by the miners,
the Chinese stores - all that remains of a large Chinese settlement
in Coloma, and a re-creation of Sutter's Sawmill where James
Marshall first discovered gold in 1848 causing one of the
largest human migrations in history. The Gold Rush Mercantile
carries gifts, toys, books, DVDs, and music that take you
back to the days of California's Gold Rush. Other links to

Park is open 8AM - Sunset, everyday year round. The Museum
