Snow
Fun in the Sierras
In
sun or snow, the mountain areas of El Dorado County beckon. From January
to April, there’s a good chance of snow. So, before you set out,
check road conditions. Call the Caltrans Highway Information Network’s
voice-activated number—1-800-427-7623 within California and Western
Nevada, (916) 446-7623 from other locations.
Forest X-Country
and Snowmobiling
There’s
excellent x-country ski terrain off of Routes 50 and 88 in the Eldorado
National Forest. Some suggestions: Loon Lake, Strawberry Canyon, Echo
Summit. Snowmobiling is permitted at some sites (day-use or season pass
required to park at a Sno-Park). Check with the Forest Service’s
Information Center at 3070 Camino Heights Drive, Camino CA 95709, Thursday
to Sunday only (530) 644-6048.
Skiing and
other Snow Sports
In
the South Lake Tahoe area, try one of El Dorado County’s two major
ski areas, Sierra-at-Tahoe or Heavenly Ski Resort.

etc. Sightseers, try the 2.4 mile gondola ride to a height of 9100 feet
for an amazing view of Lake Tahoe. Flying in? The Tahoe/Reno Airport and
Sacramento International Airport have numerous daily flights, with nonstop
connections from San Francisco, Los Angeles and other international gateways.

Travel
in Comfort by Shuttle Bus
A
47-seat Shuttle Service from Sacramento to Sierra at Tahoe will run January
28 through March 30, from Rancho Cordova to Sierra at Tahoe (both ways).
Shuttle stops are: the Sacramento Sports Complex, the Mountain and Surf
Pro Shop, the McDonald’s at 297 Iron Point Road, Folsom, and the
McDonald’s in Placerville. Arrive Sierra 9:30 am, Depart Sierra
