Click on www.visit-eldorado.com/events_all.asp to see a Calendar of Events for the entire year!! If you want, you can print out all 12-14 pages for future reference. Check the monthly calendars closer to the event for any changes. Calendars are updated weekly.

Plan Early for Popular Events
Activities like the El Dorado Wineries Association's 12th Annual Passport Weekends in April or the 51st Annual Jeeper's Jamboree in Georgetown in July are extremely popular, so do your planning early.

Finding Your Way There

Several associations within El Dorado County provide maps and directions, as well as their own calendars of events. A few are:

-The Fair Play Winery Association: Click on http://www.fairplaywine.com/gen/index.htm and drag on the pull-down menu "Touring" to see a map, directions and visitor information.

-The Placerville Downtown Association: Click on www.placervilledowntown.org/mainstreet.html for a map of Placerville's historic Main Street and information on Placerville's businesses.

-The Coloma Valley Business Directory: Click www.coloma.com/maps/ to see maps, etc.

Lodging
What tempts you most? A mountain cabin, a riverside campground, an RV park, a hotel or motel, or a historic B&B? At www.visit-eldorado.com, click on Hotels, Motels and Campgrounds or on Bed & Breakfast Inns, according to what suits your fancy.

Weddings and other Affairs
At www.visit-eldorado.com/affair.asp, find gorgeous wedding sites such as wineries and iris gardens, look for photographers and DJs, download a Wedding Services booklet or a list of Conference Rooms and Meeting Halls in pdf format, or locate coordinators to help with all the details of your visit to El Dorado County.

Going Back into History
At www.visit-eldorado.com/historical.asp, you'll find museums, historical landmarks and buildings, pioneer cemeteries and other fascinating ways to explore the county's historic past. From the same web page, you can order the book "California 1850: A Snapshot in Time" by Janice Marschner.

Fun in the Sierra Snow
El Dorado County has great downhill and x-country skiing, boarding, snowmobiling, and other snow sports.

For road conditions, call the Caltrans Highway Information Network’s voice-activated number—1-800-427-7623 within California and Western Nevada, (916) 446-7623 from other locations.

El Dorado National Forest
For recreational opportunities in the El Dorado National Forest, contact the Forest Service’s Information Center at 3070 Camino Heights Drive, Camino CA 95709. Winter hours are Thursday to Monday, 8am-5pm, call (530) 644-6048, or visit www.r5.fs.fed.us/Eldorado.

SkiingSkiing and other Snow Sports
In the South Lake Tahoe area, try one of El Dorado County’s two major ski areas, Heavenly Ski Resort or Sierra-at-Tahoe.

Heavenly Ski Resort is close to the lake. Click on www.skiheavenly.com or call 1-800-2HEAVEN. Flying in? The Tahoe/Reno Airport and Sacramento International Airport have numerous daily flights, with nonstop connections from San Francisco, Los Angeles and other international gateways.

Sierra-at-Tahoe (www.sierratahoe.com) is four miles beyond Twin Bridges, just west of Echo Summit, tel: 530-659-7453. FREE shuttle bus service to and from South Lake Tahoe, and paying shuttle from Sacramento.

Shuttle Service from Sacramento Via Folsom and Placerville
The Shuttle Service from Rancho Cordova to Sierra at Tahoe (both ways) will run through March 30. Stops at: the Sacramento Sports Complex, the Mountain and Surf Pro Shop, the McDonald’s at 297 Iron Point Road, Folsom, and the McDonald’s in Placerville. Arrive Sierra 9:30 am, Depart Sierra 4:30 pm. $17 round trip. Package prices available. Call (530) 541-7548 for a schedule and for seat reservations.

Snow Discount
-February 10-13. "Snowsports Week" at Sierra at Tahoe raises money for local organizations. Purchase discount, advance tickets at the Mountain Surf Shop in Placerville, Folsom & Sacramento. Two or more, $25 each, one for $30. Click on www.sierratahoe.com for full details or call (530) 543-3130.

Valentine's Special
-February 14. The Venezio Winemaker Dinner is at 6:30 p.m. at the Sierra Nevada House. $75 per person. Click on February calendar for details.

Live Theater
-February 14-15,20-23,27-28. See "The Philadelphia Story", a comedy by Philip Barry, at the Veterans Memorial Building, 130 Placerville Drive, Placerville. $13 general admission, $10 students and seniors. Contact: Mother Lode Performing Arts Company, (530) 672-3322.

Third Saturday Nitelife Art Walk
-February 15, 6-9 p.m. Historic Main Street, Placerville. Wine, hors d'oeuvres, demonstrations, entertainment in local art galleries. FREE. Call Placerville Downtown Association (530) 672-4346 for information.

This is a MONTHLY event, each third Saturday throughout the year.


Alert!! Have you mailed in your application for Wineries Passport Weekend? The two weekends are April 5th and 6th and 12th and 13th. Applications can be received any time after January 21. Tickets are limited. Get an application at www.eldoradowines.org or call 1-800-306-3956.


El Dorado County History Museum
The museum, at 104, Placerville Drive, is packed with interesting historical artifacts that reveal the county's history. Learn about the high price of eggs in the 1850s or about the exploits of the outlaw Black Bart. See fine baskets made by Native Americans. Coming in March
The last two days of "The Philadelphia Story" are March 1 and 2. There's a Superpipe competition at Sierra at Tahoe on March 1, sponsored by the Unites States Amateur Snowboard Association. The Third Saturday Nitelife Art Walk is on March 15.

Expo 2003: Community Business and Job Fair. This not-to-be-missed event is on March 15 at the Fairgrounds on Placerville Drive. Plan NOW for Spring and Summer Sports
There's great information on hiking, golfing, fishing, winter sports, horseback riding, and even rafting, at visit-eldorado.com/rafting.html.

The rafting companies are getting ready for their whitewater runs on the American River in mid-April. Check out their sites for prices, itineraries, events, discounts and deals. Look for half-day, full-day and two-day excursions. Some rafting outfitters have camping facilities too, and there is other lodging close by in Coloma, Lotus and Placerville.
