Rafting for the Adventurous (the North Fork, Class IV-V rapids) begins with the April snow melt and may run till June.  Rafting for family and friends (South Fork, Class III and Middle Fork, Class II-IV) runs from mid-April through October and is dam-controlled.

River outfitters offer a selection of 1/2 day, full-day and two-day or three-day trips.  Some have campgrounds, some serve meals.   Some have music, etc.  All are fun.  Here are a few specials:

-Adventure Connection has 1/2 price family trips June 24&25, July 8&9, 22&223, August 5&6, 19&20, September 2&3.  These two-day trips include two nights camping plus 5 meals.  All two-day (Tuesday/Wednesday) midweek trips on the South Fork from May 26-September 6, 2003 will be 1/2 price family trips.  Call 1-800-556-6060 or click http://www.raftcalifornia.com/. Their weekend South Fork two-day trips include a wine tasting dinner at their campground, with El Dorado County wines.

Wildflowers and Weddings
Wildflowers and Weddings The first Wildflowers appeared in late March.  Depending on the elevation, you can enjoy wildflowers from now till July.This is wedding season too, and El Dorado County has some perfect locations (and weather) for your special event. Click on visit-eldorado.com/affair.asp to find churches, sites, photographers, DJs etc.  If you'd like someone else to take care of the details, try It's One Fine Day http://www.itsonefineday.com/ or call 1-888-339-2786.  Picture your wedding in an iris garden, at a winery or historic site.  Picture riding in a snow-white limo or in a horse-drawn carriage. Picture a few select guests or a crowd.  Act now as wedding sites fill up fast and photographers, DJs etc. get booked quickly. 


Wander the Byways, Plan to Return
Apple Blossoms

Spring came early this year.  Peach trees were already blooming in late March.  Hurry to see the remaining blossoms, or just enjoy the new green growth and the Spring babies (lambs, foals, etc.) everywhere.   April is a perfect month for a driving tour through El Dorado County.  Visit Apple Hill®  (Camino area, off of Rte 50) to see the fruit orchards and wineries.  Follow the Farm Trails signs to see iris gardens, bonsai nurseries, vineyards, ranches, etc.  See the last of the snow in the Sierras, fish in mountain lakes or hike amongst Alpine scenery. Visit charming Gold Rush towns such as Placerville, Camino, Pollock Pines, Rescue, and Diamond Springs.
