Mother's Day Event
Spring Scholarship Tea
At the Coloma Country Inn

Coloma Country InnMay 11, 1pm-4pm, take Mom for tea and treats at the beautiful, historic Coloma Country Inn, 345 High Street, Coloma. $5 donation requested. Door prizes, silent auction, raffle for a two-storey Victorian Doll House. Raffle tickets $1 each, 6 for $5.00. Proceeds help fund a scholarship for a high-school student who is also a Junior Ambassador for the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce. May's the Month to Move Outdoors
Rafting on the American River

Start planning those great outdoor activities such as golfing, hiking, camping, cycling, horseback riding, boating and fishing, backpacking, tenting and RVing. For National Forest areas, stop by the Forest Service's Information Center at 3070 Camino Heights Drive. Winter hours (until Memorial Day) are Thursday through Monday, 8am-5pm. Farm-Fresh Food Season Begins
Apples The Placerville Certified Farmers Market
The market opens May 10 at the Ivy House Parking Lot (east end of Placerville's Historic Main Street, corner of Cedar Ravine and Main). It will be open every Saturday through mid-October, 8am to noon. Lots of fresh fruits and veggies, breads, flowers, eggs, etc. Call 530-622-1900 or click http://www.edc-certifiedfarmersmarkets.org.
Note: Farmers' Markets in Cameron Park, El Dorado Hills and South Lake Tahoe open in June.

Tomary Gourmet Tomatoes

Tomary is open daily 10am-6pm until the end of the year. Popular in May— plants for the home garden, including heirloom tomato plants and dahlia tubers. Look for cherries in June; ripe tomatoes end July. In season, find cut flower bouquets, gourds, field-grown vegetables, foothill peaches and nectarines, Xmas trees.

On Fridays and weekends in May, the Iris Gardens are open for visits. Admission is FREE. Monday-Thursday visits by appointment only. Over 1500 iris varieties. Ask about weddings.


Old Soda Works building is now Cozmic Cafe
Soda Works

The Pearson Soda Works building at 594 Main Street in Placerville (dating from 1859) has been remodeled and reopened as the Cozmic Cafe..Open Sunday to Wednesday, 7am-3pm, Thursday to Saturday, 7am-7pm. The cafe serves healthy food such as smoothies, coffees, soups, sandwiches and salads. Try a walking tour of the old mine shaft in the back of the building.The upstairs full conference facility can be rented for meetings, receptions, etc. For presentations, A/V equipment includes a projector and a 120-inch screen. Savor local wines and 8 microbrews at the beer and wine bar.Ladies' Night is Thursday; Happy Hour Friday, 5-7pm. Saturdays, from 7:30pm, enjoy entertainment such as light jazz, acoustical music or rock and roll. On Sundays, watch sporting events on the big screen. For more information, call 530-621-8481.
