It's One Fine Bridal Show

It's One Fine Day Bridal Show at El Dorado County Fairgrounds
August 3, 11am-4pm. Fashion Show, 1pm.
Not to be missed if you're thinking of getting married in the foothills or if you're a wedding professional looking to make connections. Learn about the various services available in beautiful El Dorado County. The Fashion Show is presented by Combellack's (Placerville) and the Clothes Mine (Sutter Creek). Look for drawings, door prizes, a Wedding Vendor Showcase, Engagement Story Contest, and a Grand Prize Honeymoon Giveaway donated by the Association for Wedding Professionals International (AFWPI). New and Old, Crafts and Antiques

Craft Fair
August 10, 9am-4pm
Placerville's Historic Main Street closes to host over 100 artisans from all over California. FREE to the public, this popular event features pottery, woodwork, quilts and decorating items, dolls, food, entertainment and much more. Motherlode Antique Show
August 22 and 23 (Frid & Sat), 10am-5pm
August 24 (Sunday), 10am-4pm.
This one's at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds, 100 Placerville Drive. The annual event hosts over 100 antique peddlers from all over California. Food, refreshments and much more. Call Fern Staton, (530) 644-5621 or visit http://www.eldoradocounty.org/.

Serrano Golf Course
If you haven't discovered El Dorado Hills yet, it's a marvelous suburban development on rolling hills with many beautiful homes, parks, hiking trails, two golf courses, shopping centers and lots of landscaping and trees. It's time to explore.

 

Saturday in the Park
August 2, 11am-6pm
There's a craft faire, food, circus, games, exhibits, music and more. El Dorado Hills Community Park is at 1021 Harvard Way. El Dorado Hills Blvd exit off Hwy 50, drive north about 2 miles. FREE parking, NO admission charge. Contact El Dorado Hills CSD Recreation Dept, 916-614-3216.

37th Annual Motherlode National Art Exhibition
August 24-September 7
Come and enjoy this prestigious exhibition. There's no fee to view. Location: "Our House Defines Art", a new gallery in Market Place at Town Center, 4510 Post Street, El Dorado Hills. Show is open 12 noon to 8pm on August 24, 11am-8pm other days (NOT open Mondays). Reception and awards presentation 3pm-5pm, Sunday, September 7. There's jazz and blues in Placerville's Fountain Plaza; Sunday Country Brunch at the Sierra Nevada House in Coloma; National Kids Day in Placerville, with games, jump houses and a parade; a Destruction Derby on August 3 and the Hangtown September Sunday Car Show on August 31 at the Fairgrounds; melodrama at the Olde Coloma Theatre; a Hot August Night Car Show and BBQ with dancing in Rescue. Fresh Produce
The August harvest brings peaches, nectarines, plums, pears and early apples. Farmers' Markets also have a variety of other items, such as fresh eggs and home-baked breads. For the Placerville, El Dorado Hills and South Lake Tahoe markets, see http://www.edc-certifiedfarmersmarkets.org/.


What's Doing on the Farm Scene?
You don't have to wait for Labor Day weekend, when the Apple Hill season begins. Several Apple Hill and Farm Trails members are open during the summer season and a few are open all year. Get your copies of the 2003-04 Farm Trails Guide and the 2003-04 Cider Press (see left column) and see what's going on NOW "down at the farm".

The Farm Trails Guide has maps of its six main farm trails areas—Gold Hill, Pleasant Valley, Georgetown Divide, Apple Hill, South County and Placerville—as well as a harvest calendar and product directory.

Coming in September
Jazz or blues in Placerville's Fountain Plaza (just behind the Cary House Hotel) every Saturday continue to October.

On September 7, enjoy the 25th Annual Butterfly Concert Celebration on the grass at the Fairgrounds. This year they observe the 100th anniversary of Richard Rodgers (Rodgers and Hammerstein) in a Broadway spectacular. The 6th Annual El Dorado County Harvest Fair, Logging Days and Wine Festival is on September 13-14, also at the Fairgrounds. Other events include an Art Reception in El Dorado Hills, the Georgetown Divide Founders Day (with cowboy reenactments, etc) and an Antique Street Faire on Main Street, Placerville. Apple Hill Opens
The fun begins on Labor Day weekend and it's all FREE—until you get the strong desire to purchase bushels of apples and other fruit, along with pies, candy apples, apple donuts and so on.
